Joan Jonas Knowledge Base

Project of the Artist Archives Initiative, hosted by New York University’s Fales Library and Special Collections

I served as Editor for this open source digital resource, which offers in-depth information on major artworks and exhibition case studies from Joan Jonas’s career. It intends to aid curators, conservators, exhibition designers, performers, academic researchers, and other professionals in the study and future exhibition of the artist’s work.

Brand new material on the JJKB includes a variety of data visualizations as well as over forty interviews with curators, scholars, artists, conservators, technicians, and Jonas herself.

An extensive range of materials including photo documentation, floor plans, bibliographies, selections from the artist’s notebooks, streaming videos, exhibition ephemera, performance scripts, and publication excerpts were drawn primarily from Jonas’s personal archive. Additional materials were generously provided by photographers, museums, galleries, and university libraries, as well as other public and private archives and foundations.
